Building a Personal Video Recorder (PVR)

For the past couple of years I've been wanting to build a PVR for myself at home.  I've messed around with a couple of different applications and will probably settle on MythTV.  Here are the requirements for my PVR:

  •  Pause, Record, Rewind, and FFWD Live TV
  • Watch Netflix instant views (currently only compatible on Windows)
  • Connection to internet to watch Hulu (Has to have a supported Browser)
  •  Nice interface
  •

MythTV fits the requirements above, except for the Netflix issue.  Because of this I may add an XP Virtual machine on the computer so that I can then utilize IE.  I'm hoping by the time I pull this all together that they will have support for FireFox and for Linux.

I'm first going to test out the setup by virtualizing MythTV and having it interface with a tv tuner through my laptop.  Then once I've confirmed that it works, then I can transfer it to its own box.   I will update this as I progress so that you can see the specs for my hardware system along with the configuration.
